Another train journey from Agra to Jaipur, this time we were a little more in the know regarding the trains. The train was number 22988 and was scheduled to leave Agra Fort train station at 1450 hrs for a 4-hour journey to Jaipur.
Tickets
Tickets were pre-booked through 12Go Asia. 120 Rupees each for the second class sitting (2S) option. 12Go Asia charged an 853 Rupee booking fee for both tickets.
Unfortunately, we had already pre-booked our next 2 train journeys with them. Subsequently, we never used them for any further train ticket purchases. Our advice is to register with the Indian railway’s website, IRCTC. Simply register, pay the foreigners registration fee of 118 Rupees and book your tickets. See our page on India travel tips & advice for more information.
Leaving our accommodation, Safarnama Agra, we took a tuk tuk for the 10-minute drive to Agra Fort train station.
The tickets showed that we were in carriage number D4, in seat numbers 28 & 29. With the train starting from Agra Fort it was just a case of walking up the platform on arrival at the station.
As we were early it allowed us to find our carriage and store our backpacks in the overhead racks before the train filled up. Second class sitting (2S) gets filled up and very overcrowded. There is no AC in this class, just fans, so it gets warm. Even though you have a seat booked, getting to it could be tricky, especially with luggage.
The journey passed quite quickly and the arrival at Jaipur Railway Station was on time at 1850 hrs. From the railway station, we needed to make our way to our accommodation at Rawla Rawatsar. We took a tuk tuk.
