Date of the journey:- December 2019
Distance travelled:- 49 miles
Moving on from Gokarna, our journey took us to Murdeshwar. Famous for the world’s second tallest Shiva statue and for the Murdeshwar Temple.
The local bus was again our chosen mode of transportation. One that we were getting quite familiar with by now. As there was no direct bus, it was going to be another multiple change bus journey.
The first leg of the journey was to get a tuk tuk from our accommodation at Shantidham cafe to Gokarna bus station. The cost of this was 150 Rupees and it took about 15 minutes. From Gokarna bus station we took our first bus to Kumta bus station, a 55-minute journey for 28 Rupees each.
From Kumta bus station it was a further 1 hour and 10-minute journey to the drop off point at Murdeshwar town entry gate. A cost of 55 Rupees each. The final bus transfer for the last mile into the centre of Murdeshwar costs 5 Rupees each. A smaller bus we caught at the gateway, just waiting at the side of the road and waving it down.
Murdeshwar is not really much of an international tourist town. Accommodation, whilst plentiful, is cheap and basic. We had not pre-booked any accommodation and we stayed in a very basic unlisted guest house close to the seafront.
