The next destination for us was the city of Mumbai, India’s largest city, formerly called Bombay, a densely populated city on India’s west coast.
To get there, we broke our no-fly pledge. Flying from Udaipur was the easiest and cheapest way of getting to Mumbai. We flew with Airvistara, a budget Indian airline that is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. Purchasing our tickets online directly with Air Vistara.
From our accommodation at the White House Udaipur Homestay, we took an Uber for the 40-minute journey to Maharana Pratap Airport. The airport is quite small, nevertheless, we had the usual multiple security checks prior to getting to the departure lounge. There were a number of small shops and cafes serving overpriced snacks and drinks.
The flight was on an Airbus A320 and was a standard budget airline flight, no frills and basic.
Arrival at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport an hour and 40 minutes later was a completely different experience. The ultra modern domestic terminal 2 greeted us. An increase in air temperature and humidity, making it feel very muggy.
Baggage reclaim was very quick and the terminal has dedicated Uber and Ola counters with pick up points. This makes it easy to get a cheap transfer into the city. There are numerous shops and cafes in the terminal. ATM’s are available should you require cash.
Our chosen accommodation in Mumbai was the OYO SilverKey Executive Stays, 45908 Park Palace hotel, located in Mandvi, a 30 min Uber journey from the airport. Vehicles cannot get access to drop directly outside the hotel, so expect a short walk through extremely crowded streets.
