Our journey from Brașov to Busteni was a direct train ride, which takes a little under an hour.
We took the 1115 hrs IR 1634 from Brasov station, costing 14.50 Lei each. Tickets were purchased at the railway station booking office. During the 21 mile journey, the train stops at 2 other stations, Predeal and Azuga.
The scenery during the train ride was stunning. The wooded Carpathian mountains with their rugged peaks and Bucegi nature park towering above us.
Arrival in Busteni came all too quickly. From the train station, we had to make our way to our accommodation at Vila Mama Jana about half a mile away.
What looked like a simple 15-minute walk according to Google maps, soon turned into a 30-minute hike up the hill. Making sure we took plenty of stops on the route. for taking in the beautiful mountain scenery of course!
If you choose to stay at Vila Mama Jana. Be aware that being located on the edge of the woods, brown bears roam around at night looking for food.
Should your arrival be after dark. It would be better to get a taxi up there, rather than walk up and encounter a bear on the way.
