Distance travelled:- 175 miles
Unfortunately, we had left booking the train too late. So we were unable to get any seats. As a result, we had to resort to the next best thing, an Indian bus.
This was going to be our first journey on an Indian bus. Having seen the battered State buses racing around. We were a little cautious as to whether this was a wise move.

To ensure that we had a seat on the bus we decided to book our tickets. Rather than use the tourist buses, we chose to use the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC). Website for the local buses and the tickets. We only used this website on this occasion. Subsequent local buses we used. We purchased tickets on the bus from the onboard conductor.
Being our first Indian bus journey we booked the super luxury bus for 555 Rupees per person. Scheduled to leave Ajmer bus station at 1330hrs. We needed to get a taxi from our accommodation, Inn Seventh Heaven, in Pushkar to the bus station. Waiting for the bus to arrive. It became apparent that we had made the right decision to go with the super luxury. Most of the other crowded buses arriving and leaving didn’t look fit enough to be on the road.
The bus arrived and we left on our 7 hour journey to Udaipur 20 minutes later than scheduled. A comfortable bus, with reclining seats, air conditioning, phone charging points. Along with a bottle of water when boarding.
The journey was fairly uneventful. Except for a young boy being sick a couple of times. Also an Indian passenger snoring so loudly it shook the bus!
Unbelievably, for at least 100 miles of the 175-mile journey, there were roadworks. This entire road was in the process of being upgraded. With every few miles, the bus was diverted around the foundation and upstands for the new flyovers. The diversion around these roadworks was an unmade dirt track. Which the driver took at high speed, making for a bumpy journey.
Eventually, we arrived at the RSRTC Bus Stand in Udaipur. Transferring to our accommodation at the White House Udaipur Homestay was done by tuk tuk, taking about 15 minutes.
