The journey to Samarkand from Bukhara was a short one in comparison to others. It was our intention to get the number 378 bus from the city out to Bukhara 1 train station in Kogon.
The buses were very busy. As the second crowded bus passed us without stopping. We knew the bus wasn’t going to be an option on that day. We flagged a taxi down which cost 30000 Som, to take us to the train station.
Our train tickets were booked using the Russian booking portal Tutu.ru. We found this the easiest site to use. Pre-booking train tickets is essential if you want a seat or bed on a specific train as they sell out quickly.
We were booked on the 1610 hrs train for the 2 hours and 20-minute journey. The tickets cost 75,500 Som per person.
Arrival at Samarkand train station gave us another taste of an impressive Soviet-era station. The weather had changed, it was cold and raining.
Immediately outside the train station is the bus station. Research indicated that we could get either the number 3 or 73 bus to the Registan region of the city. Where our accommodation was. After a 30 minute wait at a deserted bus station, we got a taxi directly to our accommodation for 20000 Som. The Trip.LE Guesthouse, booked with Booking.com.
