World’s Harshest Covid-19 Entry Requirements……This goes to Cambodia.
Cambodia has announced that all visitors arriving by plane are required to pay a deposit of $3,000 upon arrival at the airport. Mandatory as of 11th June, the deposit can be paid in cash or by credit card. Put in place to cover “virus prevention services”.
The money will be returned to travellers after fees have been deducted for Covid-19 tests, quarantine costs, and, if necessary, medical services.
The fees start with:-
$5 for transportation from the airport to a testing facility
$100 for a Covid-19 test
$30 for a one-night stay at a hotel while waiting for the test results
$30 for three meals during the wait
Should any passengers on the flight test positive for Covid-19. Then everyone on the flight will be quarantined for 14 days. Subsequently being charged additional fees of $84 per day, plus $100 for a further test. If everyone tests negative, a refund for all but $165 of your deposit will be returned.
If you die from the virus while in Cambodia $1,500 will be taken from the deposit for a cremation.
The passengers who test positive have to pay $225 per day for hospital accommodation, and medical services during the quarantine. Along with $100 per test for up to a further four tests.
Medical costs could easily surpass the deposit amount. This is why Cambodia has also requested that visitors have travel insurance of at least $50,000 for medical fees.
Thank goodness we are already here. Let’s hope the rest of Southeast Asia does not follow this lead. Otherwise, we could be in Cambodia for some time.
